Physicians at Kaiser Permanente were spending significant time on administrative documentation and note-taking during and after patient visits. This documentation burden distracted clinicians from focusing on patients, undermining the quality of the doctor-patient relationship and contributing to physician burnout.
Kaiser Permanente partnered with Abridge to deploy ambient listening AI technology across all 40 hospitals and 600+ medical offices in 8 states and Washington D.C. The tool securely captures and summarizes clinical notes from natural spoken conversations during patient visits, with patient consent required. Clinicians review and approve notes before they enter the medical record.
The tool became available to all clinicians across Kaiser Permanente's full care network in what Abridge describes as the largest enterprise-wide ambient documentation deployment in the United States to date. Both patients and clinicians reported the technology as well-received, enabling physicians to give their full attention to patient care. The implementation supports more than 14 languages and over 50 medical specialties.
